Working Principles of Hot Mix Plants:
Weighing Virgin Aggregates: The control systems determine the proportions, and the variable, continuous, and automatic belt speed weighs the virgin aggregates (sand, gravel, crushed stone) individually from the cold feed bins.
The charging conveyor transfers the weighed aggregates to the dryer.
Drying and Heating: Aggregates enter the primary drum zone, where the burner heats and dries them.
In the secondary drum zone, the system adds asphalt and mixes it thoroughly with the heated aggregates.
Drying continues in the secondary zone to ensure consistent quality.
Aggregate Flow and Mixing: Drum mixers with internal paddles (flights) ensure aggregate flow and even distribution.
Aggregates rotate with the drum’s motion and spread across its cross-section for quick, efficient heating and drying.
Continuous Asphalt Production: The drum mix plant ensures continuous asphalt production.
The drum mixer discharges asphalt concrete, which is then transported to a temporary holding bin or surge silo using devices like bucket elevators, drag slat conveyors, or belt conveyors.
