The virgin aggregates (including sand, gravel, and crushed stone) are separately weighed from the cold feed bins using a variable, continuous, and automatic belt speed. The control systems determine the proportions. After weighing, the aggregates are conveyed to the dryer via a charging conveyor.
The aggregates enter the primary section of the drum mix plant, where they are dried and heated by heat from the burner. Following this, the aggregates proceed to the secondary zone, where asphalt is introduced. In this area, the aggregates and asphalt are mixed thoroughly, and additional drying takes place.
Drum mixers feature flights (internal paddles) that guide the flow of aggregates and distribute them evenly across the drum’s cross-section. The aggregates need to rotate with the drum’s motion while also spreading out adequately. This design ensures rapid and efficient heating and drying of all particles.
The drum mix plant generates asphalt concrete mix in a continuous process. To accommodate this ongoing flow, a temporary holding bin or surge silo is utilized. Various conveying systems are employed to move the asphalt concrete from the drum mixer’s discharge end to the holding bin or surge silo. Common transportation methods include bucket elevators, drag slat conveyors, and belt conveyors.
The aggregate feeding bins in Gajjar Asphalt Mixing plants are equipped with individual variable speed drive motors and gearboxes for each bin. This setup allows for precise control and regulation of the aggregate flow for each component, enabling the accurate addition of specific proportions of individual aggregates in accordance with the mix design.
The drying and mixing drum in a hot mix plant is an essential component. True to its name, it dries the aggregates as they enter the drum. Subsequently, the aggregates are thoroughly mixed with bitumen and other minerals. The drum features specially designed flights that ensure each type of aggregate is effectively processed during the drying phase. These flights also promote uniform mixing with bitumen and other materials.
Gajjar’s asphalt drum mix plant is equipped with an efficient, low-noise burner that can operate on diesel, LDO (Light Diesel Oil), and optional furnace oil. This maintenance-free burner generates a powerful flame, effectively heating the aggregates to their maximum temperature. By continuously decreasing the moisture content of the aggregates, the burner ensures optimal production. It employs a two or three nozzle pressure jet system with high-low intensity, enhancing overall fuel efficiency.
The load-out conveyor is designed to discharge hot mix material into a truck. At one end, it features a GOB (Gate-Operated Bin) hopper, which helps manage the segregation of the mixed asphalt. Hydraulically operated gates are advantageous for ensuring efficient operation.
Asphalt storage tanks are available in cylindrical, O-shaped, or U-shaped designs. To minimize heat loss and reduce fuel consumption of the burner, these tanks are insulated with 50 mm thick rock wool and are securely mounted on a robust full chassis. The standard package features an automatic pressure jet oil burner, a bitumen pump with a jacketed oil body, and a bitumen metering system equipped with a variable speed motor and a hot oil circulation motor.
