Working Principles of Hot Mix Plant
- Weighing of Virgin Aggregates:
Virgin aggregates such as sand, gravel, and crushed stone are weighed separately from cold feed bins using variable, continuous, and automatic belt speed.
Control systems ensure accurate proportions, and after weighing, aggregates are transferred to the dryer. - Drying and Heating of Aggregates:
Aggregates are dried and heated in the primary section of the drum by heat from the burner. In the secondary section, the aggregates are mixed with asphalt, and further drying occurs. - Aggregate Flow and Mixing:
The drum mixer, equipped with internal flights (paddles), ensures the aggregates are evenly spread and rotated throughout the drum.
This mechanism ensures efficient and uniform heating and drying of all particles. - Continuous Asphalt Production:
Asphalt concrete is produced continuously, and a surge silo or holding bin is used to store the mix temporarily.
Conveying systems such as bucket elevators, drag slat conveyors, and belt conveyors are employed to move the asphalt mix from the discharge end to the storage unit.
Uses of Hot Mix Plant:
Road Construction
Airports
Industrial Developments
Urban Infrastructure
Government and Private Sector Projects
